14-year-old Killed in Shooting in Tacoma: According to the Tacoma Police Department, a 14-year-old boy was shot in Tacoma on Thursday afternoon and later passed away from his wounds. Around 3 p.m., South Sound 911 got calls reporting gunfire in the 4000 block of Portland Avenue East and a young male victim being hit.

Until the Tacoma Fire Department arrived to transport him to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, police responded to the site and provided first assistance. His death is being looked into as a possible homicide. Additionally, detectives and experts for crime scenes arrived at the location of the crime.

Following the boy’s passing, Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodard issued a statement offering her condolences to his family and friends. Even though any loss of life is tragic, Woodard stated that it is incredibly upsetting to witness a young person’s life cut short.

The “alarming escalating trend of violence that we have observed in recent years,” according to Woodard, will be addressed through collaboration with regional and national partners by the City of Tacoma. This is the city’s first homicide of 2023.
