16-year-old Dies After ATV Crash in Hancock County

Following an ATV accident close to Marion, a 16-year-old Kansas boy has been declared dead.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s crash log, at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, reports of a crash were made at a location on 170th St. that was just over a mile west of U.S. Highway 77 and about two miles southeast of Marion.

Seth Mader, 16, of Hillsboro, had been operating a Yamaha ATV west on 170th St. when he reportedly failed to negotiate the bend, according to authorities who arrived on the scene.

The ATV veered off the road and into a ditch, according to KHP. Mader’s family had been there when he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the authorities. When the accident occurred, he was not donning a helmet.
