2 Dead, 5 Injured in Dan Ryan Expressway Crash: On the Dan Ryan Expressway early on Sunday morning, a severe multi-vehicle collision left two individuals dead and at least five others critically injured, according to authorities.

According to the Illinois State Police, the accident caused the express lanes on Dan Ryan’s inbound side to be closed between 67th Street and 43rd Street for more than seven hours before they were reopened just before 9:30 a.m.

According to the Illinois State Police, the collision happened just before 2 a.m. on Sunday near 51st Street. Two vehicles were involved, and at least seven people were sent to nearby hospitals despite the lack of information on what caused the collision.

According to Chicago fire officials, two people were taken to the adjacent Insight Hospital and Medical Center, where both were later pronounced dead.

The fire department reported that five others were sent to Stroger and the University of Chicago Medical Center after the collision. All of them were initially rated as having red (serious-to-critical) conditions. There were no other details available, and the inquiry is still ongoing.
