The week of October 18-22, 2016 marked the time for the 89th annual National FFA Convention and Expo. This year it was held in Indianapolis, Indiana. 31 members of the McDonald County FFA Chapter attended the convention.
While at the convention, members were able to speak with colleges and companies from around the United States. There were several famous guests that attended the Expo, including Jason Brown (former NFL player). Members had the opportunity to hear several keynote speakers that had very inspiring messages.
Four of the attending members were the State Champion Poultry Evaluation CDE Team. The team was made up of Mylinda Dreyer, Hannah Sherman, Madison Mitchell, and Abby Bishop, who went to the convention a day early to prepare for their contest which took place on Thursday morning. The team felt fairly confident about their placing, but they did not find out where they placed until Friday night. After a long two days and a lot of waiting, the girls took sixth place! Mylinda Dreyer and Hannah Sherman were high-placing individuals, Dreyer placing ninth in the nation and Sherman placing eleventh. Both received $400 cash! All four girls, along with their coach, Mr. Eric Roller, will be attending an International Poultry Conference in Atlanta, Georgia in January.
McDonald County High School also had six members receive their American FFA Degree, which is the highest honor one can receive as an FFA Member. These individuals were Jared Wright, Bradley Sanders, Jesika Hall, Leslie Hoy, Stephanie Tosh, and Katie Brisco. The six were honored Saturday morning at a session set aside especially for recognizing the recipients.
For those who did not attend National Convention this year, you definitely missed out. If you get the chance to go next year, do not pass up the amazing opportunity.
