The biggest game in the NFL, the Super Bowl, is finally here! Both the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots have been playing all season for this moment, but only one team will go home with the title Super Bowl Champion. So the question remains, who will win Super Bowl 51: New England or Atlanta?
Most sites such as Bleacher Report and CBS Sports have picked the Patriots to beat the Falcons, but since 2004 EA Sports have used Madden games to predict the Super Bowl; and they’ve predicted 9 out of 13 Super Bowl Champions correctly. A few months ago, EA Sports Madden 17 predicted the Falcons to win Super Bowl 51. Though in that prediction Atlanta was going against Pittsburgh, not New England. I’ve decided to go around and ask some fellow students who they thought would win SB 51.
Matthew Cole, a Junior at MCHS, believes the Falcons will win the Super Bowl. He said, “The way the Falcons have played against teams like the Seahawks and the Packers, they’re sure to win with their explosive offense.” Matthew believes the Falcons will beat the Patriots 24-16.
James Shaw, a Senior at MCHS, believes the Patriots will win the Super Bowl. He said, “The Falcons have only made it this far due to their offense, but the Patriots have a rock-solid defense and I believe Tom Brady and Co. will shut them down.” James believes the Patriots will beat the Falcons 31-10.
I have my own predictions this year: I believe the Falcons will beat the Patriots 34-32. It will be late in the 4th Quarter, Atlanta is up 27-26, and the Patriots are going to have the ball with about 5 minutes left. New England will drive down the field and score a touchdown, and attempt a two-point conversion to make it a 7 point game. On the two-point conversion, Tom Brady tries to complete a pass for the two but Atlanta forces Tom Brady to try to run it in and he gets stopped short. The Patriots kick off to the Falcons, giving them only around 2 minutes to win their first Super Bowl. Driving down the field, Atlanta gets stopped just short of the goal and are forced to go for it on a 4th and short. On the 4th Down, Matt Ryan runs up the gut for the touchdown to give them the 34-32 lead. With less than a minute and no timeouts, Tom Brady is forced to throw some deep passes to get into field goal range. After completing three passes that get them into range, Kicker Stephen Gostkowski misses the kick. The Atlanta Falcons win their first Super Bowl, Matt Ryan is given the Super Bowl MVP, and the Brady/Belichick era ends with 7 Super Bowl appearances; 4 of which they won.
Well, there’s only one way to find out whose predictions will come true. Super Bowl 51 is only a few days away, and the future Super Bowl Champ will be crowned February 5th.
