5 Killed, Including 1-Year-Old, In Head-On Florida Crash

Authorities said five people, including a 1-year-old daughter, were murdered on a close call on a Florida roadway Sunday night. In a press release, theĀ Florida Highway Patrol stated that a 2015 Ford Explorer driving north crossed the highway’s centre line and struck almost head-on with a 2021 Nissan Frontier.

Three of the SUV’s six occupants, including 1-year-old and 12-year-old girls, and its 20-year-old female driver all died as a result of their injuries, according to the FHP. Additionally, a 56-year-old lady perished. The FHP reported that the three further passengers, three females and girls aged 5, 22, and 31, were in critical condition.

The FHP stated that it is unknown why the SUV crossed the highway. On SR-39 in Hillsborough County, roughly 25 miles northeast of Tampa and north of Plant City, the incident occurred at 9:22 p.m. The FHP said that the driver and every passenger were either buckled up or in child restraints.

According to the press release, the pickup vehicle was in the southbound lane without any lights illuminating it after the initial collision when a tractor-trailer struck it. The 53-year-old pickup truck driver died at the scene, according to the FHP. The highway patrol reported that the 1-year-old passed away at a local hospital. The 60-year-old tractor-trailer driver was unharmed, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
