Actor Julian Sands Missing in California Mountains: Julian Sands, a British-born actor best known for his leading roles in the movies “A Room with a View” and “Warlock,” has vanished in the Southern California mountains, according to reports citing local officials.
According to Los Angeles television station KABC-TV and the Hollywood trade journal Variety, the 65-year-old performer was reported missing by his wife on Friday evening, January 13, after hiking in the Baldy Bowl region of the San Gabriel Mountains.
Gloria Huerta, a representative for the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, was described by KABC-TV as saying, “From what I gather, he departed during that day for a hike, and when he did not return, his family reported him missing.”

According to Variety, which quoted the sheriff’s department, ground crews immediately started looking for the actor. Still, the operation was abandoned approximately 24 hours later owing to avalanche concerns and hazardous path conditions.
However, sporadic helicopter and drone overhead searches have continued, and police planned to launch a ground search as soon as the weather permitted, Variety reported. Skiers, climbers, and hikers all frequent the Baldy Bowl, located below the Mount Baldy ski resort and about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
However, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department issued a warning on Thursday, informing the public that the region has become unsafe for outdoor recreation due to the recent severe winter weather, which followed weeks of storms that dumped torrential rain and significant snowfall across California.
The caution stated that the sheriff’s search teams had been sent on 14 rescue missions on Mount Baldy and the surrounding areas for lost or stranded hikers during the previous four weeks, two of whom died after falling or hurting themselves.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for more details even though the advice did not mention the actor. A representative of Sands in Los Angeles could not be reached immediately for comment.
Born in England, Sands relocated to California in the 1980s to seek a career in Hollywood following the commercial success of the historical romance “A Room with a View,” in which he starred opposite Helena Bonham Carter.
In the 1989 supernatural thrillers “Warlock” and “Warlock: The Armageddon,” he played Satan’s son. Supporting parts in “The Killing Fields,” “Arachnophobia,” and “Leaving Las Vegas” are among her other cinematic credits.
