According to a cross-complaint that was able to receive, actor Alec Baldwin sued numerous people connected to the “Rust” movie on Friday. The actor fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October while they were rehearsing a scene for the movie that was being shot close to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Baldwin’s complaint is the first instance in which she has accused a defendant of misconduct in connection with the incident. Baldwin filed the cross-complaint against the production’s armourer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, assistant director David Halls, armourer assistant Seth Kenney, the prop weapon and ammunition supply store company Kenney owns, and prop master Sarah Zachry. Baldwin is named as a defendant in a 2021 lawsuit by a “Rust” script supervisor.
More than anyone else on that scene, Baldwin has received an incorrect accusation of committing this catastrophe. Baldwin wishes to clear his name and hold the Cross-Defendants responsible for their misbehaviour through these Cross-Claims, according to the cross-complaint.

The complaint claims that “this tragedy occurred because live bullets were delivered to the set and loaded into the gun, Gutierrez Reed failed to check the bullets or the gun carefully, Halls failed to check the gun carefully but still declared the gun to be safe before handing it to Baldwin, and Zachry failed to disclose that Gutierrez Reed had been acting recklessly offset and was a safety risk to those around her.” Baldwin was unaware of these facts, the complaint adds, but the cross-discharge claims that Zachry
These cross-defendants are experts who had a responsibility to maintain the set’s security for everyone there, including Baldwin. Baldwin was among the cast members who trusted and anticipated this of them.
According to the lawsuit, Hutchins “never would have given Baldwin the order to point the gun in her direction and pull back the hammer if she had even the slightest suspicion that it was loaded. Baldwin, who shared Hutchins’ mental state at the time, would not have done so under such circumstances.
The cross-complaint states that Baldwin is requesting a jury trial, litigation-related costs, and other relief to be decided by the Los Angeles County Superior Court in addition to “compensatory, nominal, statutory, and punitive damages.” Baldwin blamed Gutierrez Reed and Halls, who gave him the gun, for the catastrophe on the movie set in an August 2022 interview.
“It’s his fault, no one else’s,” Gutierrez Reed’s attorney Jason Bowles told on Friday. “He was the one who shot Halyna.” When contacted for comment in August, Halls’ lawyer charged Baldwin with shifting responsibility to third parties.
Attorneys for Kenney have in the past denied involvement in the shooting. Attorneys for Halls and Kenney responded to a request for comment from Friday. Zachary’s lawyer’s contact information is needed.
