An Elderly Florida Couple’s Murder-suicide Concluded With a Hospital Shooting in Daytona Beach: A 76-year-old lady is in custody after fatally shooting her terminally sick husband in the head at a hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Saturday, according to authorities.
According to Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari E. Young, the 77-year-old patient with terminal illness formed a plan with his wife three weeks before being admitted to the Advent Health Hospital to “end it” if his condition deteriorated. Police did not disclose the man’s condition.
According to authorities, the individual wanted to use the gun to kill himself but was physically unable to do so. According to Young, his wife had intended to commit suicide after, but she “couldn’t go through with it.”

Later, the woman locked herself inside the hospital room. Just after 11:30 a.m., police arrived at the hospital. And the woman, whose identity hasn’t been made public, was contacted by hostage negotiators. She was taken into police custody at 3 p.m., according to Young.
He noted that because many patients on the 11th floor were on ventilators and could not be quickly evacuated, keeping other patients there was a “logistical nightmare.” According to Young, the woman is being held and might be a first-degree murder suspect.
She’s in a difficult circumstance and is quite depressed, Young added. It’s unknown if the hospital had a metal detection security system or how the woman entered with a gun. Additionally strange is the precise weapon used in the incident.
CNN contacted Advent Health for comment. According to Young, there is no police presence at the hospital. Dr. Joshua Horenstein, a cardiologist at Advent Health Hospital, learned of the shooting during his shift in the emergency room.

In a supply room with a nurse, Horenstein told CNN that “someone came in shouting in the emergency department that this was not a drill and to shelter in place.” After around 90 minutes, according to Horenstein, he could finally exit the supply room.
