Soon after wrapping up filming on Apple TV+’s post-apocalyptic drama series “See,” Jason Momoa will star in another high-profile project for the service. The “Aquaman” actor has been cast as the lead in a new historical drama series called “Chief of War,” which was given a straight-to-series order for nine episodes back in April. This is Momoa’s first time working as a writer for a television show.

What is Chief of War About?
According to the description provided by Variety, the “Chief of War” series “follows the story of the unification and colonization of Hawaii” from the perspective of the native Hawaiians who experienced it firsthand. Momoa’s father is of native Hawaiian and Samoan blood, while his mother is of Pawnee background, therefore it appears that the idea was born out of the actor’s personal passions.
The show’s synopsis suggests we’ll see the time around 1795–1810 when King Kamehameha I finally managed to bring the Hawaiian islands under a single monarchy after years of fighting. The question of whether or not Momoa will play the great King of Hawaii remains open.
Meet the Star Cast of Chief of War
Chief of War” has Jason Momoa in many roles: lead, showrunner, and writer. No one is allowed to talk about his background or personality. Temuera Morrison will play King Kahekili of Maui in the Apple TV+ show. Legend has it that this historical character was a fierce warrior chief who almost brought ruin upon his own nation. Morrison is well-known for his leading role in “The Book of Boba Fett,” a Disney+ series that takes place in the “Star Wars” world. In the past, he has made appearances in films like “The Mandalorian,” “Once Were Warriors,” and “Moana.”
There is no trailer for “Chief of War,” but it is being shot in New Zealand with the Bay of Islands standing in for 18th century Hawaii.
The Crew Behind Chief of War
Momoa has enlisted screenwriter Thomas Pa’a Sibbett as a co-creator; the two worked together on the script for the action-adventure film “The Last Manhunt.” “Braven,” an action thriller released in 2018, starring Momoa, and was co-written by Pa’a Sibbett. Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Doug Jung are all listed as EPs, with Jung also taking on the role of showrunner for “Chief of War.
” Director and executive producer Justin Chon has been tapped to handle the pilot and episode two. The series is still being shot, so we should get more information regarding its premiere date soon.
