Cleveland High School Shootout: Cops Investigating

Cleveland High School Shootout: Portland Public Schools acknowledged in a succinct statement that afternoon that a student at Cleveland High School in Southeast Portland was shot outside the building on Monday. After someone called 911 to report hearing gunshots nearby shortly after 12:30 p.m., officers from the Portland Police Bureau arrived at the school.

Cleveland High reportedly went into lockdown right away, according to PPB. Officers discovered “partially on school grounds” evidence of a shooting outside the school. Two vehicles may have been involved, according to witnesses, but they fled the area before police arrived.

Approximately 20 minutes after the first report, a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound entered a nearby hospital. Later, investigators determined that the teen had been shot outside Cleveland High School and was a student there.

The pupil is expected to recover from their injuries, according to the police. Rio Wynia, a senior from Cleveland, said, “It’s a terrible thing. “People appeared shaken. locked down and had to be. The day is not wonderful. The full statement issued by Portland Public Schools is as follows:

We can confirm that a student from Cleveland High School was shot today outside of the building with continuous fury and anguish. The student is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

“The Portland Police Bureau is conducting an investigation and requests that anyone with information contact them at (503) 823-3333. Our top goal is ensuring the safety of our students, and we support anyone trying to stop senseless gun violence in our neighborhood.

One of the two gun violence units at PPB, the Enhanced Community Safety Team, arrived to take over the investigation. For the investigation, police closed SE Franklin Street between SE 26th and SE 28th.

District authorities called off Tuesday’s school for Cleveland kids in light of the shooting. To prepare for helping kids when they return, teachers and staff will meet. Tuesday following 11:00 a.m., Cleveland counseling and student support staff will be available to speak with students, and a “to-go” lunch will be provided in the cafeteria during regular lunchtime.

Since the start of the academic year, shootings outside Jefferson High School in North Portland have left many students injured. The shooting on Monday was the first one known to have injured a Cleveland High student this year. Outside of the school, a semi-truck struck and killed a Portland cook in October. Days after a student from Cleveland High School was struck and hurt, the area’s posted speed limits changed.
