Crews Respond to Fatal Construction Accident at Mass General Hospital

Crews Respond to Fatal Construction Accident at Mass General Hospital: A contractor fell several floors on Monday, alerting first responders and OSHA to a deadly accident at Mass General Hospital. OSHA representatives in Boston stated they were informed of a potential worker fall, while Boston police verified a person had died following what they were calling a “construction accident” at 90 Blossom St.

Emergency workers were working on a rooftop deck, almost a third of the way up the building, as others could be seen looking down from a ledge above the scene.

Ezekiah Weeks, who was working in a food truck at the time of the accident, described it as “like, a bang.” We’ve noticed a lot of activity, but it’s a hospital; you wouldn’t assume that type of thing was going on. Just so depressing.

A representative for Mass General Hospital acknowledged “an unintentional fatality of a contractor” outside the hospital’s main campus building in a statement.

The representative stated that “MGH officials, Boston Police, OSHA, and other agencies are continuing to examine this isolated event.” Foot traffic had returned by 4 p.m. when authorities removed the police tape that had been put up around the area.
