Who was David Ralston?
On March 14, 1954, in Ellijay, Georgia, David Ralston entered this world. He got his education at Young Harris College, NGSC, and UGA’s law school. From 1992 through 1998, he represented Georgia in the Senate.
In 1998, Ralston ran as a Republican for attorney general of Georgia, but he lost to Thurbert Baker. In 2002, he was elected to serve the 7th Legislative District of Georgia. When Glenn Richardson resigned as Speaker of the House in 2010, he was elected to fill the vacancy.
This makes him the first North Georgian to serve as Speaker of the Georgia House in over 150 years. The Blue Ridge Republican spent 13 years as House Speaker, during which time he rose to become Georgia’s second most powerful politician.
