Doc Martin is a British medical comedy-drama show on TV. Martin Clunes plays the main character, Doctor Martin Ellingham, who is played by the show’s name. Dominic Minghell made it based on the character of Dr. Martin Bamford from the comedy film Saving Grace, which came out in 2000. The show takes place in the made-up seaside town of Portwenn. It was shot on location in Port Isaac, Cornwall, England, and most of the interior scenes were shot in a local barn that had been turned into a studio.
Doc Martin debuted on ITV on September 2, 2004, with six episodes in the first series. The number of episodes in the second season went up to eight. Then there was a TV movie and a third season with seven episodes. Each of the next six shows had eight episodes. He is almost never called “Doctor Ellingham” by any of the other characters in the series. Most of his patients and some of his friends call him “Doc.” Everyone else calls him “Martin.”
Even though it was said in 2017 that the show would end after Series 9 in 2019, Martin Clunes explained that it had only been commissioned through that year, so the broadcaster could still have plans for the show in the future.Right after the last episode of Series 9 aired, ITV put out a short press release, “So long, Doc! We’ll miss you.” But Director Nigel Cole confirmed in April 2020 that there will be a 10th series.

Doc Martin Plot
At the end of the last season of Doc Martin, which aired in 2019, the Doc decided to quit being Portwenn’s doctor after the General Medical Council looked into his career because of his fear of blood. So, in this last season of Doc Martin, the Doc tries to get over his fear and starts to wonder if he made the right choice when he quit his job. He and his wife, Louisa, have also just had a baby girl, Mary Elizabeth. James Henry, who is four, now has a sister, so we’re guessing that their house will be pretty loud in this series.
Louisa is now working as a child counsellor in the Doc’s old office, so the Doc is left holding the baby and doing his hobby of fixing clocks on the kitchen table. But does he really want to go back to the old job?Martin Clunes says, “The Doc quit in the last season, and when the new season starts, he’s left holding the baby, literally, because he and Louisa have had a second child, a daughter named Mary Elizabeth.” “He starts to wonder if resigning was the right thing for him to do!”Some new filming shots also show Martin standing next to a car on the edge of a cliff.
Doc Martin Release date
Since they are still making the last season of Doc Martin, it won’t air on ITV until 2022. There’s a good chance that the eight-part series will start in the fall, but nothing has been confirmed yet.There may also be a special documentary released at the same time as the first episode of the show. The show is shot in Port Isaac and the area around it.Cornwall Tourism gave the Doc Martin team a special award for making a great contribution to tourism because of how much it helped the local economy.
