On Thursday, traffic was backed up on the north side due to a collision. The primary lanes, however, are now open, according to City of San Antonio officials. Due to a crash earlier in the day, eastbound Loop 1604 at Gold Canyon Road was closed for some hours.

Additionally, shut down was the southbound US 281 ramp to Loop 1604 and the Gold Canyon bridge over Loop 1604. Authorities claim that a commercial van contained construction machinery with a boom raised above the ground.
The vehicle struck the Gold Canyon Bridge over Loop 1604 while traveling eastbound on North Loop 1604 East. According to TxDOT, the construction machinery cracked two bridge support beams and ripped a hole in the asphalt.

Engineers temporarily repaired the Gold Canyon bridge after they came to assess the damage. According to TxDOT, the roads will be opened when it is safe. Residents of the neighborhood were informed of the traffic delays via a “Public Safety Alert.”
