The incident took place at a trailer house on Foxtown South in unincorporated Polk City at roughly 3:15 a.m. on October 4, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. According to the authorities, three deputies entered the trailer while Deputy Lane took up a tactical position outside of it. The sheriff’s office said in a statement that the posture allowed him to see the door and windows, ensuring that he would notice the suspect if she tried to run.
When the three deputies entered the trailer’s gaming area, they were surprised to find no one there. Then Williams entered the frame and allegedly pointed a gun at them. Williams was wounded after shots were fired. Following that, Lane disclosed that he had been shot in the arm.
According to the sheriff’s office, Lane was wounded in the left arm and had a bullet penetrate his chest. He died at Lakeland Regional Medical Center after being brought there. Blane was employed as a Detention Deputy in May 2021, according to Judd. In January 2022, he was appointed a Deputy Sheriff.
