George Santos Was Reportedly a Brazilian Drag Queen: Two associates have revealed that New York congressman George Santos participated in drag queen competitions in Brazilian beauty pageants 15 years ago, highlighting the gap between the Republican’s former behavior and his vehemently conservative stances.
The gay freshman congressman is under fire for using a stolen checkbook, and both Democrats and his fellow New York Republicans are calling for him to resign. He is also the subject of municipal, state, and federal investigations in the US and Brazil.
Democrats in Congress and other groups had demanded probes into Santos’s campaign funds and questioned when Republican officials were aware of his deceptions and questionable record. However, Santos supported Republican Kevin McCarthy for speaker throughout the 15 rounds of voting; McCarthy now retains the office with a narrow majority.

Instead of taking action against the freshman, McCarthy and other party leaders appointed him to two House committees. Santos acknowledged “embellishing” his resume but maintained his innocence and stated he had no plans to resign.
In 2005, at the first Pride parade in Niterói, a Rio de Janeiro district, the Santos was cross-dressing, according to a 58-year-old Brazilian performer who goes by the drag name Eula Rochard. Santos participated in a drag beauty pageant in Rio three years later, according to Rochard.
Santos participated in drag queen pageants and hoped to be Miss Gay Rio de Janeiro, according to a second Niterói native who knew him but asked to remain anonymous. Santos’ press office and a recently appointed communications director did not respond to emails.
Santos has positioned himself as a steadfast conservative on many social issues. He is the first openly homosexual Republican to win a House seat in Congress as a non-incumbent. He supported Florida’s “don’t say gay” law, which forbids students from discussing gender identity and sexual orientation in the classroom.
Republicans are increasingly criticizing drag performances and events, saying they are bad for kids. I am openly homosexual, have never had a problem with my sexual identity in the previous ten years, and I can tell you and assure you, I will always be a champion for LGBTQ+ people, Santos said in response to criticism of his support for the “don’t speak gay” measure in October.

In 2005, the congressman, according to Rochard, was a “poor” drag queen wearing a plain black dress; but, in 2008, “he came back to Niteroi with a lot of money” and a flashy pink dress as evidence. Santos participated in a drag beauty pageant that year but failed, according to Rochard, who also noted that Santos “was always a liar.” He had such big dreams all the time.
