Lee County Sheriff Says Body in Sunken Boat Belongs to Man Missing Since Ian: Authorities announced Sunday that a body discovered inside a sunken boat in Lee County waterways belonged to a 72-year-old man who had been missing since Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc over Florida in late September.
According to a Facebook post by Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, the remains found on Friday have been definitively identified as those of James “Denny” Hurst, who was last seen alive aboard the sailboat “Good Girl” in the vicinity of Fort Myers Beach, the epicenter of the Category 3 hurricane.
According to the sheriff’s office, the boater was the last person reported missing in Lee since Ian made it ashore on September 27. This raises the county’s death toll to 75. The Florida Medical Examiners Commission reported 146 fatalities associated with Hurricane Ian as of January 13. His family is in our hearts and minds, Marceno added. Following the announcement, people flooded social media with sincere words.

NBC 2 said that a worker at Salty Sam’s Marina called the sheriff’s office on Thursday after spotting boat wreckage that they had not previously observed. On Thursday night, divers submerged, and the boat was taken out of the ocean the next day.
The authorities didn’t immediately disclose the cause of death. Not all of Hurst’s remains were discovered this month. Ilonka Knes, 82, was found dead in a Fort Myers Beach canal on January 10 by a waste removal business.

She had been gone for about 100 days, Marceno said during a press conference on Thursday, and her remains had been found less than two kilometers from her house. Marceno claims that Hurricane Ian caused her to drown accidentally, and the medical examiner was able to identify her thanks to dental records positively.
