Paul Pelosi Was Attacked At San Francisco Home

According to court documents, David Wayne DePape, the man accused of breaking into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s house and physically assaulting her husband, indicated he wanted to kidnap her and maybe break “her kneecaps.”

If Nancy [Pelosi] told DePape the “truth,” he would let her go; however, if she “lied,” he was going to shatter “her kneecaps,” forcing her to be wheeled into Congress. He said this to San Francisco police after being apprehended.

Paul Pelosi was hospitalised following the assault and underwent what the speaker’s office described as a “successful operation to heal a skull fracture and major injuries to his right arm and hands,” according to Nancy Pelosi, who made the statement Monday night.

At a press conference on Monday, interim San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said that the suspect had selected the Pelosi house intending to confront the House speaker. Paul Pelosi was sleeping on the house’s second floor when DePape allegedly broke through a rear glass door. According to Jenkins, he then asked Paul Pelosi, who was still wearing a pyjama shirt and boxer shorts, where his wife was.

Jenkins claimed that Paul Pelosi then asked to go to the bathroom, where he made a 911 call before attempting to use the elevator at the Pelosi residence. According to Jenkins, the defendant then understood Paul Pelosi had made a call. When two cops finally arrived, they observed the defendant carrying a hammer and striking Pelosi, according to Jenkins.

The San Francisco police “recovered zip ties in Pelosi’s bedroom and the hallway near the front entrance of the Pelosi residence,” according to the FBI affidavit included in the federal prosecution against DePape.

A roll of tape, white rope, one hammer, one pair of rubber and cloth gloves, and a journal were discovered by law enforcement when they searched DePape’s backpack at the Pelosi residence, according to the affidavit. Paul Pelosi claimed to have never met DePape, according to the report.

According to Jenkins, DePape, 42, is accused of attempted murder, home invasion, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, false detention of age, and threats against a public figure and their family.

Jenkins stated that authorities think DePape meant to kill Paul Pelosi and that politics drove his actions. According to the evidence so far, it is evident that the speaker and this house were the defendant’s intended targets, according to Jenkins. Jenkins urged officials and others in public to “watch the words that we speak and to dial down the level of our political discourse” during the news conference.

DePape was also charged with federal counts of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on a member of the official’s close family on Monday. He will appear in court in San Francisco on Tuesday for his arraignment. According to law enforcement authorities informed on the inquiry, DePape also had a list of people he planned to target. The sources claimed he might have intended to attack additional individuals if he hadn’t been detained after hitting Pelosi.
