The August free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers have been made public. These titles are a part of the Essential category, the first of three tiers that the gaming giant recently updated. In the middle of the month, other titles moving up tiers will be announced. The wildly popular recent remasters of the legendary skateboarding games from the turn of the decade, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, are at the top of the list this month. Modern visuals, moves from subsequent games, online play, and an updated, diversified lineup of skaters are among the new additions.
Both PS4 and PS5 versions are available here, and if you play on the previous generation first (and yes, that includes auto pop trophies! ), you may transfer your save to the current generation. Intriguingly, despite Microsoft purchasing the publisher, this is the second consecutive month that PS Plus has offered a free Activision game, following Crash Bandicoot 4 in July. The following free game is Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which is accessible on both the PS4 and PS5 (but without cross-saves and auto-trophies).

This edition in the Yakuza series is a classic turn-based JRPG. Although it features some fighting against criminals in Japan, the focus is largely on the karaoke minigames. If you want to get on board, Sony has announced that the entire main series will also be coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium this year: Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 will be coming in August, with 3, 4, 5, and 6 set to drop later. The franchise has grown to be one of SEGA’s biggest and best-received in the past decade.
