Police: 14- and 16-year-olds Killed in Palm Bay on Christmas: On Christmas Eve, two teenage males were shot to death in the isolated Palm Bay neighborhood known as “The Compound.” According to police, someone in a wooded section of The Compound contacted 911 after discovering a corpse in a ditch.

The Compound, a nearly 3,000-acre open space in southwest Palm Bay, is where the teens were discovered. Lt. Michael Roberts of the Palm Bay Police Department said, “I’m not aware of any automobiles that were present, and we still don’t know why these youngsters were out here, especially on Christmas night.

A dirt bike rider who didn’t want to be named added, “Certainly disturbing.” My favorite destination for dirt bikes and ATV riders is The Compound. Mostly off-road riding, a dirt bike rider who wished to remain anonymous claimed.

According to the city, The Compound is not a public recreation area. Because a corporation developing it in the 1990s went bankrupt, it is primarily open fields and dirt roads presently. Most current private owners who purchased the land have kept it undeveloped thus far.

The open area draws a diverse range of tourists, including model airplanes and firearm enthusiasts. Roger Holloway, a local, stated, “I’ve been coming out here for the hobbies, model airplaning and such. At the base of signs informing people that shooting there is prohibited, piles of shotgun shells have been discovered in the dirt.

A dirt bike rider who wished to remain anonymous stated, “They usually shoot from this side to that, but you can tell someone has done a number on that sign.” Holloway claims he was at The Compound on Christmas and saw nothing unusual, but later, as he was walking home, he noticed many emergency responders passing by.

“Just a regular pair of dirt bikes out for a run. I went outside to hunt for model airplane enthusiasts, but I don’t suppose many were outside that day. However, you can constantly hear the men outside firing their weapons. “They do it even though they’re not supposed to,” stated Holloway.

The place is regarded as remote by the police. “There aren’t any actual residents. Outside, there is no traffic. Therefore, it is very challenging to locate any investigative leads, Roberts added. According to Roberts, investigators are working around the clock and are hoping witnesses would come forward to assist them in determining what took place.

“Shutting down a landmass that size is impossible given the sheer volume of 12.2 square miles. We are in the open. We are diligent in upholding all of those laws and requiring citizens to inform themselves of some of the risks that have occurred. But for the time being, that’s about all we can do to keep the agency out there and be proactive,” he said.
