Rick and Morty Creator Justin Roiland Face Domestic Violence Charges: The voice actor for the two title characters and co-creator of the cartoon comedy Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland, is awaiting trial on felony domestic abuse charges against a former partner.
Roiland, 42, was accused in a criminal complaint acquired from Orange County, California prosecutors of causing bodily harm and false imprisonment against the woman he was living with at the time. In court filings, the woman’s identity was not disclosed.
Roiland entered a not-guilty plea. The event happened in January 2020, and Roiland was accused in May of that same year. The charges, however, appear to have escaped the attention of the media until NBC News broke the news on Thursday, after a pre-trial hearing in the case.
Emails addressed to Rick and Morty’s broadcaster, Cartoon Network, and Roiland’s lawyer requesting comment did not receive a prompt response. In April, Roiland is scheduled to go back to court.

There is no definite date for the trial. The animated science fiction sitcom, which Roiland and Dan Harmon devised, has Roiland as the voice of both the mad scientist and his grandson.
It has been renewed for a seventh season after airing on Cartoon Network for six as a part of the network’s Adult Swim late-night programming block. High on Life, a comic alien shooter that takes place in a science fiction setting, was also made by Roiland.
