‘Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet’ is coming to Nintendo Switch on November 18th! The 26-year-old Pokémon franchise’s upcoming installment, the ninth generation, is already being teased by the game’s publisher, The Pokémon Company. February’s Pokémon Day was a good time to announce the games’ names and share the first information about them. Another sneak peeks at Scarlet and Violet was released on Wednesday, following the release of a second trailer in June on YouTube.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are still months away, so there’s a lot to discover about the series’ upcoming mainline games. But there is a lot we already know, including the new Pokémon and what to expect from the game’s open-world gameplay, which is still in development.
The Pokémon Company has shown us so far what it has to offer in the way of Scarlet and Violet. As additional information becomes available, we’ll keep you apprised.

POKÉMON SCARLET AND VIOLET RELEASE DATE
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Pokémon Company revealed the release date for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: November 18. The titles will only be available on the Nintendo Switch platform.
REGION NAME: PALDEN
Palden was revealed as the new home of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in August by The Pokémon Company. As stated by The Pokémon Company, it is “a land of broad areas and mountain ranges filled with lakes and high peaks.
Naranja Academy and Uva Academy are the two schools in Mesagoza that players will attend, depending on whether they are playing Scarlet or Violet.
POKÉMON SCARLET AND VIOLET OPEN-WORLD RPG GAMEPLAY
With the “open-world experience” moniker, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be unlike any other Pokémon game in that players will be able to freely wander between the wild and urban areas. As with previous Pokémon games, the gameplay is believed to be influenced by the Wild Area of Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
The world will be “free to explore at your leisure and not in an order dictated by the tale,” according to the Pokémon Company. In spite of this, there is still an exciting and varied path for Pokémon trainers to take on: The Pokémon Company notes on the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website that you can “meet a range of people and Pokémon” and “explore the world of Pokémon the way you wish to.”
After enrolling in one of the two academies, players will be able to “weave” their own story, according to a statement from The Pokémon Company in August. Scarlet and Violet’s three “great stories” may only be accessed through an independent study known as “The Treasure Hunt,” which is required by the schools. To now, the Pokémon Company has only described one of these tales, the one that most Pokémon fans are most familiar with: the quest to become a Pokémon champion, which entails visiting eight different gyms.
POKÉMON SCARLET AND VIOLET MULTIPLAYER EXPERIENCE
The Pokémon Company promises “multiplayer gameplay with up to four players.” Trading and fighting are part of the experience, but the big difference is exploration: “You will be able to explore the many locations of the region in these games with other players,” the company said on the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will have local wireless play for two to four players, and online multiplayer for one to four players. A feature called the Union Circle allows players to gather together and “experience together in the same environment.”
Although it’s not yet apparent how extensive the multiplayer experience will be, The Pokémon Company has been indicating a more extended multiplayer experience since Pokémon Sword and Shield.
You can also do things like trade or battling, as The Pokémon Company explained back in August. With the Poké Portal, you can trade with friends and make surprise transactions, as well as engage in battles with others.
SCARLET AND VIOLET STARTER POKÉMON
Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quality are the three starter Pokémon for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet respectively. Pokémon players will once again begin their adventure with one of these three Pokémon as their default starters. It’s a “capricious attention-seeking Grass Cat Pokémon,” a “laid-back Fire Croc Pokémon that does everything at its own time,” and a “tidy Duckling Pokémon.”
POKÉMON SCARLET AND VIOLET ARE NEW PROFESSORS AND RIVAL
Now, depending on the game you buy, you’ll get a whole new professor: There are two professors to choose from: Professor Sada for Pokémon Scarlet players, and Professor Turo for Pokémon Violet players. According to The Pokémon Company, each of these professors is conducting their own research “into lore passed down in the region.” Their given names, Sada and Turo, connect to the past and future, respectively, and help to explain their choice of clothing. The words “korai” and “Mirai,” for “ancient” and “future,” appear in the names of the legendary Pokémon.
As of right now, it’s unclear how or even if the professor’s decision will have a significant impact on gaming.
It’s Nemona who’s the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s adversary. For the sake of comparison, the Pokémon Company refers to her as “a friend and trusted adviser” and an “experienced Pokémon trainer,” which seems to be a comparable role for the opponent.
Additionally, the academy director is Clavell and Mr. Jacq is the biology/homeroom instructor.
