Southbound I-5 in Olympia Closed After Carjacking Suspect Rolls Semi, Is Shot

After a carjacking, standoff, and altercation in which police shot one guy, southbound Interstate 5 in Olympia is still shut down. A lane heading north was reopened around 7:30 p.m.

Aerial video revealed the man exiting the semi-cab, trucks running toward the police, and collapsing. An ambulance was used to transport him.

Police gave the man many commands as he exited the semi-truck, according to reporter Drew Mikkelsen, who also heard several loud bangs. It was not immediately clear what the man’s condition was.

According to Washington State Trooper Robert Reyer, the incident began shortly before two o’clock when a pedestrian carjacked and rolled a semi-truck.

All I-5 lanes are closed as a result of the incident, according to a tweet from WSDOT Tacoma. The freeway may be locked for several hours, a state policeman said. The state patrol tried to reason with the carjacker, but he would not leave the semi. He carried a hammer.
