SR 520 Is Closed In Both Directions After Two Semi-Truck Rollovers

On Thursday, two separate semi-truck rollover incidents closed both directions of SR 520. To clean the road of the cement truck that had overturned, Bellevue police blocked all lanes of westbound SR 520 along the floating bridge.

Over five miles of traffic were backed up as a result of the closure, which started at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and ran from 92nd Avenue Northeast to Montlake Boulevard. On the SR 520 bridge near Evergreen Point Way, the pedestrian and bicycle path was also shut down.

The left lane on Seattle’s SR 520 east of Montlake Boulevard was also stopped by a different crash. Drivers are advised to stay away from the area until further notice after the Washington State Patrol issued a warning that “this will be a lengthy shutdown.”

A second vehicle, a concrete truck, overturned at around 2:30 in the afternoon, obstructing all lanes of traffic as well as the cycle and pedestrian route. The truck’s driver reportedly swerved to avoid a wind-blown trash can, struck the barrier, and then rolled the vehicle.

Drivers using alternate routes to cross Lake Washington should prepare for a protracted closure and extremely heavy traffic.
