Tanker Carrying 8,500 Litres Of Fuel Explodes On Stow Highway

Just after 1:30 a.m. on Friday, a tanker truck travelling along State Route 8 in the Stow region flipped and caught fire while transporting 8,500 gallons of gasoline. Around 1:30 in the morning, Stow police, Stow firemen, and other local law enforcement agencies arrived on the scene of the deadly rollover accident on State Route 8.

When the first workers arrived, the fully involved tanker was upside down on the roadway between Steels Corners Road and Graham Road. The male truck driver, whose identity has not yet been made public, was declared dead at the site. The Ohio Department of Transportation responded to a public records request, receiving video of the explosion.

 

State Route 8 was shut down in both directions for some time. Around 4:30 a.m., the Ohio Department of Transportation reopened the northbound lanes. Up until about 8:30 a.m., State Route 8’s entire southbound traffic was detoured off the road.

 Environmental Protection Agency representatives were called to the scene of the horrific truck fire to check for potential contamination. According to Stow police, the incident was cleared at about 3:45 p.m. All lanes of traffic and ramps have now been restored.
