The Responder season 2 is coming to BBC1 because season 1 was a big hit. The first episode of season 1 got 7.6 million people to watch it. In the five-part drama, Liverpool police officer Chris Carson struggled to keep his life together after he got involved in the criminal underworld of the city. At the time, people couldn’t get enough of the show, and now their prayers have been answered!
Martin Freeman led an all-star cast as the troubled copper in the series. His performance as a man on the verge of a mental health crisis because of the stress of his job was praised by critics, and he’s set to come back for another round. So far, here’s everything we know about season 2 of The Responder…
When will BBC1 air season 2 of The Responder?
It’s too early to tell right now, but we do know that The Responder will be back on TV. The BBC’s chief content officer, Charlotte Moore, said, “The BBC is on fire creatively, and the return of four of our biggest dramas over the last year shows the scale and range of storytelling on the BBC.”
Radio Times confirmed the news and said that it is one of four major BBC dramas that will be back for a second season. This means that big things should be happening. Before, producer Laurence Bowen said that they wanted to keep going with the story and that they had already started working on it before it was ordered. This means that there are already some ideas about what could happen.
At a recent press event, he said, “We’ve started writing scripts for the second season.” “We’re thinking about what the story will be about and how it will look. As a producer, it’s a real honor to tap into something, like a mosquito tapping into an artery, and Tony is the artery! I think there is a lot more to come, so we’d love to do more.”
What could happen in season 2 of The Responder?
At the end of the first season, Chris Carson took Casey’s stash of cocaine and gave it to Carl Sweeney’s widow to keep her quiet. He then told Dr. Diane Gallagher, who was running her brother’s drug empire while he was in jail, that she should tell her bosses that the police had taken the drugs.
In the last scenes, we saw the troubled copper go home to his wife Kate (MyAnna Buring) and promise to start over with her. He then went back on patrol with his partner Rachel Hargreaves (Adebayo Adedayo). But will his plan to forget about those shady deals work?
Chris might be sure that telling Dr. Gallagher’s boss that their stash was seized will save her brother’s life, but she can’t be sure that her boss will believe her. If the show comes back, could she come back to ask Chris for the money? Also, Ray Mullen still has a grudge against Chris, and if a new series does come out, he may start it all over again. Carl’s wife, Jodie, could also come out of hiding if she has trouble selling the drugs Chris gave her.
Chris’s abusive father was another interesting plot point that wasn’t explored. Could this be something that Tony Schumacher expands on in a possible second series? Casey and Marco, who were young and played by Emily Fairn and Josh Finan, were fan favorites and we would love to see them back if there is a new series.
Who from the original cast will be back?
We expect Martin Freeman to come back, and he told us last year at a press event that he was eager to play the part again. He said, “I’d like to go back to Chris because I’m a sucker for good scripts.” “I’ll walk anywhere for a good script, and we had a great team for this. I love the team and the way it’s put together, so yes, I’d like to do it again!”
Warren Brown has said in the past that he would be willing to come back to the show: “So often you don’t know how well something is going to be received, so you don’t know from the start that they want to do more of a series. “But I think more and more that when a show gets a great response from the audience, there is definitely room to do more. So it sounds like there might be a second season, but nothing is set in stone. If that happens, I’d love to go back.”
