According to Jon Paxton, a sheriff’s deputy, “They were up here, recreational, enjoying it, and wanted to get some pictures out on the ice.” Firefighters informed ABC 15 that a mother, two kids, and a woman were trying to save their loved ones when they slid through the ice and were barely saved.

It was already too late when they managed to climb out of the water and get cell coverage to call emergency services. At that time, Paxton said, “hypothermia sets in very quickly.” “And it’s worse if you can’t swim,” she continued.
