Jimmy, Tracy’s father, was a Vietnam soldier, musician, and heroin addict who abandoned his wife and five children when Tracy was six years old. His mother, Alicia, was a housewife. Morgan was bullied as a child growing up in Bedford Stuyvesant’s Tompkins Houses. Tracy was a sophomore at DeWitt Clinton High School when he learned in 1985 that his father had AIDS as a result of frequent usage of hypodermic needles. It was in 1987 that Jimmy’s condition deteriorated and Tracy, who had newly married, had to take care of him. After Jimmy’s death in November of that year, Morgan briefly turned to selling crack to help support his new wife and their two children.
