Unseen Footage Of One Direction’s Formation

The 12-year-old English-Irish musical group One Direction was founded with a significant contribution from American singer Nicole Scherzinger. On July 23, The X-Factor UK revealed previously unreleased video of the band’s founding in 2010. All five of the contestants—Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson—started off by waiting for the judges’ verdict. According to the secret video, each vocalist was dismissed separately before being called back to create a band. Next, the video showed:

“And for the first time ever, here is how the decision was made.”

Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, and Louis Walsh were next shown poring through various images of the “Boys” and weighing various singing lineups. Then Nicole suggested that they should form “an imaginary boy group” rather than simply removing the possible soloists. She began by placing Niall Horan’s photo in a different pile on their disorganized table.

Then, when Nicole saw a headshot of Harry Styles, she yelled, “Yes!” The group then decided to pair him up with Horan. They added Louis Tomlinson to the special pile after Harry Styles and Niall Horan. In response, Nicole said: One Direction’s collection of half-completed songs caught Scherzinger’s attention again as the other two judges considered other possible boy bands. She stated her confidence:

“They’re just too talented to get rid of. They have just the right look and the right charisma on stage, I think they’ll be really great in a boy band together. They’re like little stars. You can’t get rid of little stars, so you put them all together.”

After discovering Liam Payne’s headshot, the reality show judges grouped him with the other three band members on their fictitious band roster, according to Scherzinger. Payne had “the outstanding audition” among the other competitors, according to Cowell. The 28-year-old vocalist sang a heartfelt rendition of Arthur Hamilton’s Cry Me a River. Simon complained and requested to be put with the other group when Scherzinger and Walsh placed him in the future One Direction pile.

Nicole continued to defend her position by saying:

“I don’t think so. I think that he would definitely shine. He could maybe actually be the leader.”

Simon said he thought “he’s better than everyone else,” which Louis felt was not as horrible as it sounded. Simon appeared doubtful about their choice. Later, they discovered Zayn Malik and included him in the group of five boy band members. When the judges thought the lineup was ideal, Simon remarked:

The five members of the group got along well and achieved great success as a group, placing third in the reality TV competition. One Direction put out five albums, four of which peaked at the top of the Billboard 200 charts, and placed six songs on the Hot 100 chart. Zayn confirmed his departure from the band in 2015. One Direction declared their extended break in August of that same year, and the band members subsequently pursued separate musical endeavours.
