Van Conner Cause of Death: Co-founder and bassist for the grunge-era rock group Screaming Trees, Van Conner passed away at age 55. Gary Lee, a bandmate and brother of Van, verified the awful news on Facebook on January 18.

Lee said that Van Conner, the Screaming Trees’ bassist, and lyricist, passed away Friday night at 55 after a protracted illness. He was among my best pals, and I adored him to the moon and back. I will miss him always and forever.

Van Conner’s health had been deteriorating quickly for more than a year.

In recent years, Van Conner struggled with serious health concerns, according to Lee’s Facebook updates. The Screaming Trees guitarist revealed in a post on January 5 that his brother had gone to the hospital early this year due to a liver ailment.

However, Van Conner’s health issues started in the latter half of 2021. Since having emergency stomach surgery that put him into a coma around Christmas a year ago, Lee said his brother has been unable to walk.

The bassist developed COVID-19 while recovering, which led to a blood clot that “badly injured” his lungs. Lee added that despite Van Conner’s issues, he initially refused medical attention before going to the hospital earlier this January.

What caused Van Conner’s death?

Van Conner passed away a few weeks following Lee’s post on January 5. His brother said that pneumonia was the cause of Van’s demise: “It was pneumonia that finally got him.” Lee dedicated a YouTube tribute to his brother and former bandmate Van Conner a few hours after learning of his loss.
