Stew Leonard Obituary – Founder of a Renowned Grocery Store Chain Has Dἰed!

Stew Leonard Sr. ded at the age of 93. He was the founder of the famous grocery store chain that shared his name. Leonard was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, and in 1969 he opened the first Stew Leonard’s as a retail dairy shop.

It was made to be a store where kids could see milk being put into bottles. It grew into the first of seven supermarkets that sell food grown in the area, but it’s still a special experience.

When the weather permits, youngsters can still interact with live farm animals. It was designated as the “World’s Largest Dairy Store” by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! and entered the Guinness Book of World Records for having the highest dollar sales per square foot of selling space.

Since then, the grocery store company has grown into a family-run business worth $600 million. After he and the family business got through a tax frud scndal in the 1990s, Leonard gave up his official job in the business.

His son, who took over the business, said that customers and employees were loyal. Stew Jr. said –

“I’d call him up and say, Dad, come on over and let’s walk around the store.”

“And he’d come over here. We’d spend hours walking through the store together. Customers would hug him and kiss them, team members would hug him and kiss him. And he just beamed ear to ear. That was his joy.”

Following a brief llness, Leonard pssed away at Lenox Hill Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, his four children, and his 13 grandkids.
