Alison Brie and Dave Franco Premiere New Movie

Alison Brie and Danny Pudi, stars of the sitcom “Community,” who recently collaborated on the romantic comedy “Somebody I Used to Know,” are prepared to begin work on the much-awaited film adaptation of the humor.

Brie expressed her wish that the movie shoots this year to Variety at the “Somebody I Used to Know” premiere on Wednesday. Brie declared, “I’m clearing that schedule.” According to Pudi, “it appears likely this year.” It’s just timing at the moment.

Over the COVID lockdown, Brie and her husband, Dave Franco, co-wrote “Somebody I Used to Know.” In the new movie, which Franco also directed and in which Brie co-stars with Jay Ellis from “Top Gun: Maverick,” Franco makes his directorial debut after “The Rental” in 2020.

After a professional setback for TV producer Ally (Brie), she returns to her hometown. Briefly, she encounters her high school sweetheart Sean (Ellis) until she finds out Sean is getting married that weekend. The strange love tale of Ally in “Somebody I Used to Know” reimagines the rom-com with the help and opposition of friends (David Pudi) and family (Haley Joel Osment).

Their collaboration on the comedy sparked Brie and Pudi’s excitement for the next “Community” movie. Pudi exclaimed, “Everyone is so excited; we’re incredibly pumped.” “Somebody I Used to Know” was, in my opinion, a preview of what it would be like.

For Pudi, “we wrote the role,” according to Brie. “You can’t pretend to know someone. Furthermore, it didn’t seem like we had ever been apart. I have remained quite close to Danny. He is one of my closest friends, so it felt like we were on the “Community” set. Dave captured many of our ridiculous acts while we were back and used them in the film.

“That was the joy of it,” Pudi continued. Dave is so fantastic and kind to say, “I want to utilize that; I want this to seem like it’s your friendship,” which is precisely what we wanted it to be like: let’s play and have fun. Being on set together in Portland for a month was so much fun. “I can’t wait to get everyone else together,” we said. Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Ken Jeong also starred in “Community.”
