Brianna Ghey Death: Boy And Girl Charged With Warrington Park Murder

A boy and a girl, both 15 years old, have been detained on suspicion of the stabbing death of a 16-year-old girl in a village park. On Saturday, Culcheth, Warrington, Cheshire locals discovered Brianna Ghey at Linear Park.

Just after 15:00 GMT, she was discovered lying on a path with stab wounds, and emergency services were summoned. Even though Brianna was a transgender girl, authorities claimed there was no proof her death resulted from a hate crime.

Brianna has received tributes, with one user on social media calling her a “lovely angel” and a “beautiful girl.” According to police, the detained youths are residents and are being held in jail. Police are investigating the “precise circumstances,” according to Det Ch Supt Mike Evans. He says,

“At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that the circumstances surrounding Brianna’s death are hate related.”

“Patrols have been stepped up in the local area and officers will remain in the Culcheth area to provide reassurance and address any concerns that residents may have.” The statement reads.

The cause of death was determined by a post-mortem, according to police, who also stated they were helping Brianna’s family, who are from the nearby town of Birchwood. Emma Mills, the head teacher at Birchwood Community High School, which Brianna attended,

“We are shocked and truly devastated to hear of the death of Brianna.

“This is understandably a very difficult and distressing time for many and we will do our utmost to support our pupils and wider school community.” 

In a tweet, Labour MP Jess Phillips called Brianna’s death “utterly terrible” and expressed her condolences to her parents for their “unimaginable loss.”

Police said they were still looking for the attacker’s weapon and trying to figure out why they did it. More police officers are patrolling the well-known dog-walking area. Police contact anyone with a dashcam, CCTV footage, or information about the event.
