The body of the Florida Gulf Coast University student who perished on Wednesday night after falling off a boat has been discovered, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). @SheriffLeeFL shared a post on Twitter:

After a more than 12-hour search, the body of the 19-year-old guy who drowned while on a private boat in Lake Como close to the university was discovered. One of the 13 people on board the ship at the time of the crash was Graham McGrath.

Multiple teams arrived at the location at around seven o’clock in the evening. Deputies utilized a side-scan sonar on the boat to locate and take pictures of things on the lake floor.
The lake is deeper than expected, reaching depths of 30 to 50 feet. According to the sheriff, a death investigation is ongoing. Death’s exact cause is still unknown.

In the midst of their ongoing “death investigation,” the office does not believe there was foul play, but they have not ruled it out either. None of the other people on the boat when McGrath went overboard, according to the authorities who claim to have spoken with them.

Marceno stated, “We will determine precisely what happened.” The FGCU president, Aysegul Timur, addressed the tragedy on the institution’s X (formerly Twitter) page on Thursday in the following manner:
“It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of Graham McGrath, the FGCU student who tragically went missing yesterday afternoon while on a private boat on the shared lake between the university and Miromar Lakes,”

Timur offered McGrath’s friends, family, and the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity his “deepest condolences.” According to the sheriff’s report:

Graham Mcgrath Cause of Death
A man boater’s body who vanished after falling overboard during a private trip has been located. Officials have finished looking for missing boater Graham McGrath from Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) on Lake Como in Florida.
A public facility called Florida Gulf Coast facility is situated in Lee County, close to Fort Myers, Florida. It is the second-youngest institution in the system of state universities in Florida. Since the university’s founding on May 3, 1991, it has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Around 7 o’clock in the evening, calls regarding the missing boater started coming into the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno has confirmed that the unnamed male student attended FGCU.
The precise reason for death is still a mystery. The student’s overboard incident is still under investigation.
