On January 27, 2023, financial advisor Nicola Bulley vanished while taking her dog for a walk by the River Wyre in the community of St. Michael’s on Wyre in Lancashire, England. Six months after the sad occurrence that generated so much media attention, police started a new search in the region.

The incdent sparked a social media frenzy and prompted inquiries regarding police operations in the UK Parliament. Nicola Bulley’s cause of deth has now been made public. On February 19, 2023, about a mile from where she had gone missing, her body was discovered in the River Wyre. Nicola Bulley drowned to deἀth, according to the police.

At roughly 9.20 a.m. on Friday, January 27, Ms. Bulley’s daughters, ages six and nine, were dropped off at the local school. She was last seen in the area of the river. She was said to have been strolling her springer spaniel dog Willow near the River Wyre.

On February 19, 23 days after she vanished, her body was discovered in a clump of brush and branches along a river bend, about a mile from the bench where her phone and dog were discovered. What Has Her Family Said?

The family of Ms. Bulley said they could let the mother-of-two “rest now” after the body was discovered. A statement released by the family read:

“We will never forget Nikki, how could we, she was the centre of our world, she was the one who made our lives so special and nothing will cast a shadow over that. Our girls will get the support they need from the people who love them the most.”

What Have the Police Said?

Numerous people criticized Lancashire Constabulary for how it conducted the search. MPs and advocacy organizations expressed their displeasure after the force decided to make details of Bulley’s private life, such as her issues with alcohol and perimenopause, public throughout the search.

A “full independent review” is set to be carried out by the College of Policing into Lancashire Police’s handling of the case, the county’s police and cɼime commissioner said.

A Lancashire Constabulary spokesperson said:

“As previously stated, police divers were acting under instruction of HM Senior Coroner and had been asked to assess the riverbanks in the vicinity of where Nicola Bulley went missing. They had not been tasked either to perform any further searches within the river or along the banks or to locate any articles. This activity is to assist with the coronial process.”
