NFL offensive tackle Conrad Dobler, who played for the league for ten years, passed away on Monday at 72. Dobler spent the majority of his career with the then-St. Louis Cardinals, where he also spent time with the Saints and Bills. He was selected to three Pro Bowls and a second-team All-Pro with the team.
Owner of the Cardinals, Michael Bidwell, said in a statement, “He was the kind of tough, physical and fierce player that you love to line up with as a teammate and hate to line up against as an opponent.” “On the field, Conrad was a big reason for the success of the Cardiac Cards of the 1970s.”

Due to the extent he would go to block defensive linemen. Sports Illustrated dubbed Dobler the “dirtiest player” in the NFL in 1977, fresh off his third consecutive Pro Bowl season. In the tale, he claimed,
“I’ll do anything I can get away with to protect my quarterback.”
Dobler continued by saying that he would devise ways to block, making it impossible for him to try to duplicate some of his choices. He admitted,
“Sometimes I can’t believe what I do, that I can fling my body around the way I do.“ Those things happen at the time. I couldn’t repeat any one of them.”
Dobler was an essential squad member that won double-digit games for three straight seasons in the 1970s while playing in 80 games for the Cardinals, starting 77 of them. He appeared in 129 NFL games overall, mostly at right guard.
