A fictional account of his life, “Man of the Year,” examines the conflict that results from being a closeted gἀy guy who serves as an s*x icon for heteros*xual women. Mr. Shafer’s public coming-out in the movie led to a slowdown in his career as a nμdist model.

Circular gἀy circuit gatherings were the subject of another Shafer movie, “Circuit” (2001). through a persona, a police officer from a small town who relocates to West Hollywood and discovers romance and adventure. Later, Mr. Shafer worked as a personal trainer and made one final appearance in Playgirl in 2012.
