Over three years after Frozen 2 became the highest-grossing animated film ever, Disney has officially announced that Frozen 3 is in the works. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the threequel and the sequels for Toy Story and Zootopia (also known as Zootropolis) on February 8, 2023.
The only surprise is that it took Disney so long to announce that a new movie was in the works. The cast of Frozen has long enjoyed teasing fans about a third Frozen film. The voice of Anna, Kristen Bell, “confirmed” a threequel in June 2022, although claiming to have “zero authorization” to do so.
In September 2022, her co-star Idina Menzel (the voice of Elsa) followed up, saying (According to Digital Spy)
“I can unofficially claim with no backing that there will be a Frozen 4 and 5. The trilogy and then the quadrupoly, or whatever it’s called.”
Before the sequel’s release, Jennifer Lee, who wrote and directed the first two films, admitted to Digital Spy that she thought the second film would be the beginning of the end for Anna and Elsa. Yet, as she also noted, they had said the same thing after the previous film (as reported by Just Jared)
“For us, this feels like what we set out to accomplish. It feels like the end, but the first one felt like the end when we did it.”

Frozen 3 Release Date
Although Frozen 3 has been officially announced, the release date for the third installment is still unknown. Iger said when he officially announced the new movie (via Deadline).
“We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”
The interval between the release of Frozen and Frozen 2 was six years, making that the best indicator of when we may reasonably anticipate Frozen 3. Fans may have to wait until 2025 to see Anna and Elsa again, but that would depend entirely on how far along the project is in development in February 2023.
The new meta Disney film Wish, which doesn’t yet have a release date, has kept directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee busy. Although we are unsure if they will participate in the third Frozen movie, we would be shocked if they weren’t.
