On Sunday, April 2, Jake Paul openly criticized KSI on Twitter for using a racial epithet in a Sidemen YouTube video. This week, KSI generated controversy by using a disparaging phrase in a now-deleted YouTube video as part of a routine game show.
Jake Paul is an American actor, professional boxer, social media influencer, and YouTuber. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 17, 1997, and first gained notoriety on the now-defunct social media site Vine before becoming a well-known YouTuber.
What Did KSI Say?
A video from the Sunday Countdown series, based on the game show Countdown, was posted on April 2 by KSI and the Sidemen. In the game, players must select a letter tile from two stacks, one containing vowels and the other consonants. They have 30 seconds to create a single word with the most letters they can, up to nine.
KSI formed the offensive word and racial slur for South Asian people, p**i. During the video, he said (According to HITC)
“I don’t mean this maliciously, but the word is *bleep*. *Bleep*. I’m sorry. We need points. I don’t… guys, come on!”
The word was beeped out in the video, but Simon “Miniminter,” one of the Sidemen, picked up a dictionary and said (as reported by The Local Report)
“I’m looking. Pakistani is in the dictionary. Sadly, it’s not (the right answer).”
KSI Expresses Regret for the Racial Slur
The next day, KSI used Twitter to apologize and declare that he would stop using social media. He wrote:
“I wanna apologise for saying a racial slur in a recent Sidemen video. There’s no excuse, no matter the circumstances, I shouldn’t have said it and I’m sorry. I’ve always said to my audience that they shouldn’t worship me or put me on a pedestal because I’m human. I’m not perfect, I’m gonna mess up in life, and lately I’ve been messing up a lot.”

Jake Paul, who has a longstanding rivalry with KSI and is reportedly due to finally fight him in the boxing ring before the end of the year, responded by calling the Sidemen member:
“Fake guy with fake apologies every other week. I hope you take this more serious than taking a break off social media so you can focus on training and then reappearing two weeks before your fight saying you’re a new man. Meet with British South Asian community leaders, get with the right charities and give back. I made my own mistakes in my early 20s but we are too old for this behavior. I look forward to knocking you the fuck out on behalf of all South Asians around the world. You 30 year old prick.”
