Mike Remus, 69, of Grimes, Iowa, pἀssed away on May 22, 2023. Bill and Shirley Remus welcomed Mike on December 7, 1953, in St. Paul, Minnesota. 1971 Mike completed his education at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines. Afterward, he enrolled in Creighton University, receiving his degree in 1976.
Mike held several titles throughout his life, including son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a librarian, friend, and hero. Mike and Julie Remus became partners when they both worked for Equitable Life Assurance in 1993. They fell in love, and on October 15, 1994, they were married.
Natalie and Val, Julie’s daughters, had a devoted father in them. Liz was born to Mike and Julie in 1997. Following his retirement in 2021, Mike enjoyed his favorite pastimes, including photography, driving his Corvette, reading, taking in the scenery, and spending time with his grandchildren.
With the Des Moines Camera Club as his home base, Mike spent many hours outside sharpening his eye behind his cameras while working part-time at the Grimes Public Library to promote his love of reading. Mike’s parents, Bill and Shirley Remus, his sister Theresa Schultz, and his brother-in-law Tom Schultz predeceased him.
His wife Julie Remus; his children Natalie Morgan (Andy), Val Harryman (Brian), and Liz Remus; his grandchildren Audrina, Owen, and Evie Harryman; his dog Lola Remus; his siblings Linda Landwehr (David) and Jim Remus (Wendy), as well as several nieces and nephews, survive him.

Mike cherished life and made the most of it. He had a sizable, devoted family and numerous close friends. He is someone we miss. On May 27, 2023, at 10:00 am, there was a visitation at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa.
