Brad Lawing Obituary: Honoring A Tribute to Legend South Carolina Assistant Coach

Brad Lawing, a former South Carolina assistant coach pἀssed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Earik Kimrey former Gamecocks quarterback and Hammond head coach tweeted, “Very saddened to hear the news of Brad Lawing pἀssing away.”

Coach Shane Beamer posted to Twitter, “So sorry to hear this awful news.”

Stacy Evans wrote on Facebook, “I Love you and don’t worry about me I’m be okay”.

Brad Lawing is a highly skilled football coach born in Frankfurt, Germany. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1979, and from Appalachian State he later received a master’s degree in 1985. When Lawing was admitted into the Lenoir-Rhyne Sports Hall of Fame in 2015, his exceptional accomplishments in the sport were honored.

From 2006 through 2012, Lawing worked at Columbia, where he helped the Gamecocks top the Southeastern Conference in sacks in 2010 and 2012. He also coached Jadeveon Clowney, who would go on to be selected No. 1 overall.

In terms of total defense, South Carolina also consistently placed among the top 15 in the nation from 2008 through 2012.

Lawing worked under a number of well-known head coaches over the majority of his career including Nick Saban (Michigan State), Steve Spurrier (South Carolina), Jimbo Fisher (Florida State) and Mack Brown (Appalachian State). Most recently, he was Shawn Elliott’s defensive line coach at Georgia State, a former South Carolina assistant.
