Deborah Stehlik Obituary: She Pἀssed Away Peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023

On June 7, 2023, Deborah M. Stehlik of Babylon, New York dἰed quietly at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital. Deborah, the daughter of Linda Rubano and the late Dennis Rubano was born on September 27, 1973 and spent her entire life in Bethpage, New York.

After graduating from Bethpage High School, Deborah attended the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University earning her undergraduate and master’s degrees in music education. She was an adjunct professor at Hofstra University and taught movement in Orff-Shulwerk classes.

Deborah furthered her studies by earning an advanced certificate in educational leadership. The excellence of Deborah’s pupils in NYSSMA festivals, chorus concerts, recorder performances, theater shows, and N.Y. State Music Festivals resulted from her passion for music.

Which she shared as the former president of the Nassau Music Educators Association and a lifelong music lover. The Bethpage School District has been fortunate to have Deborah as a music educator for over 25 years.

She has taught at Kramer Lane Elementary School, Bethpage High School and most recently at Central Boulevard Elementary School where her early musical inspiration came from Mrs. Kelly, the music teacher at her elementary school.

The Bethpage music department has benefited from Deborah’s leadership and engaging teaching style who has also served as the district chairperson for choral and classroom music. Sophia, Deborah’s daughter who was 17 years old and whom she cherished was her most considerable pride.

Sophia has given her life to the performing arts following in her mother’s footsteps. Deborah was so pleased with Sophia’s accomplishments. As her daughter’s defender, confidante and friend, Deborah was a constant throughout her life. Deborah also loved working out and it was at CrossFit that she first met her partner, Bill O’Keefe.

Her father, Dennis Rubano and her godfather, Richard Rubano ded before her. Deborah’s family would like to thank the nurses and personnel at the Sunrise Las Vegas Hospital, Five Towns Premier Rehabilitation Center and Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital for their compassion and generosity during her final weeks.

On June 9, 2023, visiting hours will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Fμneral Home in Babylon, New York. The Our Lady of Grace Church, 666 Albin Avenue, West Babylon, New York will host a fμneral liturgy on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10:00 am.

The North Babylon Cemetery, located at 784 Sunrise Highway S Service Road in Bayshore, New York, will be her final resting place.
