On May 31, 2023, Larry Pilling, 75, of Macedonia, Iowa, pἀssed away in the company of his loved ones at home. Funeral services will be placed in the Carson Community Center in Carson, Iowa, on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Two hours before the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., there will be a visitation.
The Macedonia Cemetery will serve as the location for a military funeral. Carson’s Loess Hills Funeral Home is looking after Larry and his family. Memorials: The family has requested that memorial donations be made in place of flowers.
Larry Pilling Obituary
On May 31, 2023, Larry Pilling, 75, of Macedonia, Iowa, dἰed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones. Larry Paul Pilling, the oldest child of Paul Lewis and Daisy Mae (Moore) Pilling, was born in Council Bluffs on October 1, 1947.
Larry attended Carson-Macedonia High School in 1965 after growing up on the family farm east of Macedonia, Iowa. After graduating from high school, Larry started farming full-time with his father, and he carried on farming until his pἀssing alongside his son-in-law, Nick Allen.
On October 18, 1969, Larry and Karlene Sue (Susie) Eckert exchanged vows at the Macedonia United Methodist Church. Their two daughters, Leslie Ann and Lisa Sue were born and raised on a farm near Macedonia. Larry was destined to work on a farm. At the age of six, his father showed him how to operate a tractor.
When Larry wasn’t assisting Rich Henry, whom he regarded as a brother, with farm duties, you could find him hanging around with Rich. Along with riding horses, pursuing squirrels, and “torturing” Larry’s sisters Paula and Marcia, they enjoyed being together.
From the moment Larry started helping out on the farm, his father instilled in him a strong work ethic. Larry spent more than 25 years working as a seed sales representative for Pioneer Seed in addition to farming. Everyone he conducted business with respected Larry because he was trustworthy and kept his word.
Everyone had such great things to say about Larry, from the landowners he rented farmland from to the clients he sold seed to. In order to experience the various sights and sounds of Southwest Iowa, Larry always found a way to travel the “long way” to his destinations. In 1966, Larry enlisted in the American Army Reserves, where he served for six years.
Both the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion counted Larry as an active member. Every hunting season, Larry enjoyed going pheasant and deer hunting. Additionally, he eagerly anticipated his summertime fishing vacations to South Dakota or Minnesota.
Larry enjoyed watching televised racing (Nascar and Indy) and classic westerns in his spare time. He supported the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Larry loved his animals, and gator rides with his dogs Mickey and Brownie were among of his best memories. His pride and joy were his grandchildren.
He thoroughly enjoyed being their grandfather and found it to be a very gratifying role. His nickname among the grandchildren was “Pop.” Larry was very appreciative of the time he had with his two sisters in the latter months of his life.
Paula and Marcia moved in with Larry without hesitation to take care of him and provide for him, just like their mother would have. The three of them got the chance to reflect on their favorite childhood experiences and go on a trip down memory lane at this time.

His daughters Leslie Pilling and Kirk Eckert of Fallbrook, California, and Lisa Allen and Nick of Macedonia, as well as his three adorable grandchildren Jackson Paul Allen, Lillian Lynn Eckert, and Daizy Sue Allen, as well as his sisters Paula Peterson of Davenport, Iowa, and Marcia Pilling of Seattle, Washington, nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and a number of close friends, survive Larry.
