Teresa Taylor, a well-known former drummer of the Butthole Surfers, tragically pἀssed away on 18 June after a valiant fight with lung dἰsease. Her unique musical ability, unwavering character, and immeasurable contributions to the field of music will live on in memory.
Teresa maintained her sobriety throughout her struggle, and she dἰed peacefully in her sleep over the weekend. Teresa had incredible bravery and resiliency despite the difficulties she encountered due to her ἰllness. All those who had the good fortune to get to know her were better off because of her beautiful attitude and perseverance.
We feel a significant loss upon hearing about her pἀssing, and we shall miss her terribly. There will be a memorial service soon to honor her life.
The Butthole Surfers, who Teresa had a long-standing musical friendship with, acknowledged their sorrow in a tribute on their Facebook page:
As they said goodbye to their wonderful friend and acknowledged her immeasurable impact on their lives, they spoke of her enduring presence in their hearts. Teresa played drums with the Butthole Surfers from 1983 until 1989, bringing her distinctive style and enthusiasm to songs like Psychic, Powerle, Rembrandt Pussyhorse, Another Man’s Sac, and Locust Abortion Technician.
Her talent as a musician captured fans’ attention and gave the band’s sound a unique taste. She temporarily got back together with the group in 2008, further establishing her place in their past. Teresa worked on projects other than music; she appeared in Richard Linklater’s 1991 film Slacker.
She played a hipster woman trying to sell Madonna a pap smear, and her performance became a movie staple, appearing on the movie’s poster. Her creative contributions touched many people and demonstrated her talent in various mediums. By openly disclosing her end-stage lung ἰllness diagnosis in November 2021, Teresa showed her tenacity and honesty regarding her health issues.
