Why is Everyone Discussing Biden’s Confrontation With a Man Named Cornpop?

In 1962, Joe Biden, a security guard at a swimming facility in his early 20s, had a problem. He was met outside the pool by a tough guy by the name of CornPop, the leader of a Delaware gang known as “the Romans.”

CornPop, according to Biden, was a “bad person” who “led a bunch of nasty lads,” carried a straight-razor, and had the support of other gang members. Additionally, he implied that he would “cut” the vice president.

Biden confronted CornPop and his associates head-on while equipped with a 6ft chain rather than contacting the police. During a stalemate, CornPop conceded. An intriguing story told by Biden in a 2017 video leaked online over the weekend. There was a general lack of believe in it.

Some people questioned the existence of CornPop. Others expressed skepticism at the notion of Biden engaging three armed gang members while brandishing a chain. Nonetheless, it seems possible that the presidential contender was telling the truth.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) had a past state president who had backed Biden’s campaign. A newspaper obituary also did so.

As Biden attended the Wilmington park and swimming pool renaming, the clip of the CornPop story was captured. The former senator from Delaware remembered his time as one of the few white security guards working there as a young man. He then began to tell his tale. He said (as reported by The Guardian)

“CornPop was a bad dude and he ran a bunch of bad boys.”

Biden remembered how CornPop once disobeyed the pool’s rules by refusing to wear a bathing cap. When Biden saw him on the 3m diving board at the pool, he made the decision to enforce the rules. Biden shouted (According to Fox 5 DC)

“You! Off the board, or I’ll come up and drag you off.”

Despite coming down, CornPop seemed unhappy, maybe in part because Biden had also addressed him as “Esther,” a nod to the then-famous swimmer Esther Williams. CornPop said he would be waiting outside. He was true to his word, Biden remembered (as reported by AR15)

“He was waiting there with three guys [with] straight razors.”

Biden went outside to confront CornPop on the recommendation of a man he described as a pool mechanic. Biden said (According to The Liberty Leader)

“I walked out with the chain. I walked up to my car. I said: ‘First of all … when I tell you to get off the board, you get off the board, and I’ll kick you out again. But I shouldn’t have called you Esther Williams, I apologize. But I don’t know if that apology is going to work.”

CornPop conceded, according to Biden. (as reported by Head Topics)

“He said OK, closed the straight razor and my heart began to beat again.”

Biden’s account is being supported by evidence. Richard “Mouse” Smith, the former president of the Delaware NAACP, recounts the same story in a longer clip from the 2017 event that was released by the neighborhood news station WITN.

Meanwhile, CNN reporter Daniel Dale discovered a death notice for a man from Wilmington named William L. “CornPop” Morris, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 73.

It’s unlikely that everyone will accept the Biden and CornPop tale. But we do know that Biden, at least in his own words, is not scared of violence. In 2018, he asserted that Donald Trump might actually be in danger of getting hurt. Biden told an audience in Florida (According to Sports Betting Dime)

“A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said: ‘I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it. If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.”
