Lake Lanier, famed for its beautiful views and recreational options, has once again served as the scene of a tragic occurrence that has left the neighborhood in sadness.

A 24-year-old man named Gavrie Alexander Whitlock tragically lost his life after falling into the waters close to the Holiday Marina on a fateful Saturday night, shattering the peaceful atmosphere and heightening the sense of sadness and dread among locals.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) got a distressing report of a drowning occurrence that evening at about 10:30 p.m. Witnesses described the terrifying events, saying that Whitlock was sprinting along a dock close to the Holiday Marina when a sudden accident caused him to fall into the lake. Whitlock did not emerge, despite the valiant efforts of those close.

The Hall County Fire Rescue crew and the DNR quickly joined forces in response to the sad call to launch an extensive search operation for Whitlock. They searched the waters with unflinching resolve, hoping to find him.

Their efforts eventually paid off, as they pulled his lifeless body from about 17 feet of water. Gavriel Alexander Whitlock was unable to be resuscitated despite their best efforts, and he was declared dead at the site.

The Whitlock family has announced that a memorial ceremony was held for Gavrie Whitlock on Friday, September 8th, at 1 p.m. at Grace New Hope church. Lawrenceville, Georgia 30045; address: 1766 New Hope Rd.

After the service, the family will be available for visits. Please type out your remembrance of Gavrie and email it to Janet or dickgett@gmail.com in a private message if you would like it to be shared during the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be donated to Grace Student Ministries in Gavrie’s honor. Gavrie was raised in the student ministry. The funds will be utilized to send children to summer camps.

According to representatives of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, a 24-year-old male from Snellville drowned in Lake Lanier after falling from a dock and dying Saturday night, 2 September.

According to Gwinnett Daily Post, Gavrie Alexander Whitlock fell into the water at the Holiday Marina soon after 10 p.m. on Saturday, reported by Georgia DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon. Whitlock fell into the lake while jogging along a dock at the marina.

Hall County Fire Rescue was able to extricate Whitlock’s body after discovering it 17 feet below the lake’s surface. Whitlock was one of two people who drowned on Georgia lakes over the course of the four-day holiday weekend. The other was a teenage girl from Augusta who perished in Clarks Hill Lake.
