A U.S. representative will tour the area with regional officials as clean-up progresses two days after a propane-carrying train derailed close to the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.

Bradenton-Sarasota International Airport is nearby the derailment, which happened close to 16th Street East. Crews worked all day on Wednesday to clean up.

One of their difficulties was uprighting a tanker car that hauled 30,000 liters of propane. Since Tuesday’s derailment, according to officials, leaks have been under close observation.

They claimed that they hadn’t discovered any leaks and that the tank wasn’t harmed. Nonetheless, authorities are cautious and continuously monitoring the air quality.

“We can launch a drone in less than five minutes rather than having to dress a technician out in a period of 10-15 minutes,” explained Hazmat Captain Mike Bloski of Southern Manatee Fire Rescue. “The drone can be up in the air, giving us live feedback photos, giving us detector analysis at the scene.”

Congressman Vern Buchanan will visit the location on Thursday. Seminole Gulf Railway’s proprietors stated that the area should be tidy by the weekend.

Investigations are ongoing to determine what caused the derailment.

There were a total of two propane tankers and five railcars involved. One of the tankers is reportedly transporting 30,000 gallons of propane, according to South Manatee County Fire Rescue. Another, which remained upright, was also hauling propane when it derailed and it jumped the track. The sheetrock is in four automobiles.
