An American musician and visual artist by the name of Eric “Rick” Froberg also went by the aliases Rick Fork and Rick Farr. He was born on January 19, 1968, in Los Angeles, and he also has addresses in Brooklyn and Encinitas, California.
Froberg played guitar and sang for several well-known San Diego-area bands during his career, including Pitchfork, Drive Like Jehu, and Hot Snakes. He worked closely with John Reis, another musician from San Diego. In addition, Froberg played in other bands, such as The Last of the Juanitas, Thingy, and Obits.
In addition to his musical activities, Froberg made a name for himself as an accomplished illustrator and visual artist. Rick Froberg Cause of Deἀth
At the age of 55, Rick Froberg, the abrasive frontman for the American post-hardcore bands Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, Pitchfork, and Obits, pἀssed away. Froberg, unfortunately, pἀssed away on June 30, 2023.
John Reis, a longtime associate, shared the news of his pἀssing on Instagram:
“Rick pἀssed away suddenly last night from natural causes. His art made life better. The only thing he loved more than art and rock n roll was his friends. He will forever be remembered for his creativity, vision and his ability to bring beauty into this world. I love you, Rick. I will miss you for the rest of my life.”

The singer and guitarist won praise for fusing the directness of punk with imaginative playing and unapologetically passionate singing that would inspire the emo style from the 1990s on.
One of the most important records of the US punk underground is Drive Like Jehu’s 1994 album Yank Cɼime, which included 10-minute songs, choppy rhythms, glacial tempos, and the usual punk energy. Hot Snakes’ more raw and unadorned sound spanned four lauded albums.
In addition to being a great musician, Froberg was a successful visual artist who designed vibrant pop art album covers for both his own albums and those by Reis’ band Rocket From the Crypt.
In 1986, Froberg and Reis established the San Diego-based band Pitchfork, which went on to release an EP and the LP Eucalyptus in 1990. After they broke up, the two formed Drive Like Jehu with the rhythm section of another recently disbanded band, Night Soil Man.

Drive Like Jehu released their self-titled debut in 1991, and Yank Cɼime. This brief but significant discography influenced other similarly adventurous bands like At the Drive-In and the Blood Brothers. Reis’s Rocket From the Crypt’s rising popularity caused the band to split up, but between 2014 and 2016, they came back together to perform live.
1999 Froberg and Reis reformed Hot Snakes and performed energizing garage punk. They separated in 2005 after putting out three albums between 2000 and 2004, but they regrouped in 2010 and went on to record the well-received Jericho Sirens album. A fifth album was recently described as “very near done” by the artist.
