The date is February 24, 2023 – One of the conclusions of the working group for the establishment of the integration program for foreigners on temporary work in Croatia was that secondary school facilities should be made available for the execution of language improvement programs and training.
Thursday, Varazdin County said on its website that a working group had been formed at the start of the year and that its first meeting had taken place just recently, as reported by 24Sata. According to the information provided by Hina from Varazdin County, the meeting’s major issue was deciding on a plan and program of work for the working group, and seven conclusions were made as a result of that discussion.
As a result, it was proposed to conduct a survey of citizens and foreign workers in Varazdin County to ascertain attitudes towards them and to see what can be done to encourage their integration into society, with the aim of providing the premises of secondary schools for the implementation of language improvement and training programs.

The working group also suggests that foreign workers be required to learn Croatian as a condition of employment and that a common database be created to track the number of foreign workers, their nationalities, and the locations at which they are employed.
Further, Prefect Andelko Stricak said that there was a proposal for the banking sector to consider providing loans to foreign workers so that they can purchase real estate for the sake of family reunion and, if successful, permanent immigration.
A favorable image of Croatia could also be fostered by publicizing the benefits that migrant employees bring to the country. It was determined that workers from nations geographically close to Croatia adapt to Croatian culture and customs more readily than those from more distant countries.
Varazdin County wrote to the Ministry of the Interior on February 15 with the group’s established conclusions and proposals, as the Ministry of the Interior is the holder of the proposal for the decision on the establishment of the Interdepartmental Working Group for the Drafting of a Draft Proposal for Documents on the Immigration Policy of the Republic of Croatia, which would also include the issue of integration of foreign workers into society.
